Sometimes simple solutions get ignored.
Yet, we often go for dental treatments that are ...
- Intense
- Invasive
- Expensive
This is because of the assumption that our dentist knows best and more expensive and complicated means it’s better.
Please note that this article is not to keep you from going to the dentist and replace your dentist advice with something your found on the Internet.
Consider that you likely don't go to the dentist more than twice a year, but you still recognize that the mouth is a dynamic part of the body that needs constant care when disease comes about.
A lot of simple issues can be handled by natural home remedies that are not overly complicated or expensive.
Seriously though, if you have any major issues, don't hesitate to call your dentist. Keep in mind that you are choosing to use home remedies at your own risk.
We also recommend that you take a little more time to research on your own...
Consider the Real Dangers of Dental Surgery
Here's the problem:
Dental surgery is often about treating the symptoms rather that the root cause. It's like replacing the car engine without changing the problematic oil (expensive and painful!). And not only that, one could argue that you are replacing that engine with one that doesn't actually fit in the car (you are putting foreign metals in your mouth).
Of course many dentists will argue that such procedures are completely safe.
But here are some reasons to at least be cautious about that claim:
- Root Canals are never 100% clean. George Meinig D.D.S. reveals in his book "Root Canal Cover-Up" that root canals cause further problems in the liver and the heart due to the possibility of certain infectious bacteria hiding inside the microscopic tubules in our tooth, which could cause infections later on. [1]
- Amalgam filling might be poisonous. While international treaties have come against mercury fillings, the American FDA still has not changed its 30 year old opinion regarding its safety. [2]
- Dentist will suggest invasive treatment because that's what they do. Just like if you go to a surgeon, they will likely suggest an operation or an internal medicine doctor will likely suggest drug treatment.
We suggest doing some research yourself. Ask for more than one opinion. Consider talking to a medical professional that has other specialties such as holistic medicine.
So with that said, before jumping into your dentist’s chair...
At least consider if there are some...
Dental remedies that could actually work for you
We did our best to compile the best home remedies based on what works best for our customers and seem to be backed up by research. However, these are not guarantees, and you would use any of this advice at your own risk.
Here are the dental issues we will tackle
- Pre-Cavities
- Cavities
- Receding Gums
- Bleeding Gums
- Discolored Teeth
- Bad Breath
- Tooth Abscess or Infection
- Toothache
- Mouth sore / Canker sore
- Sensitive Teeth
Prevent Cavities and Treat Pre-Cavities
Oil Pulling: This is a long time ancient practice. Studies show that this reduces plaque gingivitis and can pull the bacteria out of pre-cavities. [3]
- Swish 1 tbsp of oil (sesame, sunflower, or coconut) then spit it out into the trash can (oil will clog your plumbing)
- Rinse well with warm water and a drop of Ultimate Gum Solution (this will naturally sterilize the now empty tubules in your teeth)
- Brush well.
Salt water rinse: Salt is a natural antiseptic and can reduce inflammation and pain.
- Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt into warm water and swish for 1 minute
- Do this 3 times a day until the symptoms subside.
Tip: Add a drop of Ultimate Gum Solution to multiply the antiseptic effect.
Use a NovaMin Toothpaste: Dentists will tell you that you can never repair your teeth. For the most part they would be correct, but there's one "remineralization" molecule that actually works to build new enamel-like material. This is not exactly a home remedy, in fact Sensodyne mysteriously discontinued their patented Novamin in the US (rumors suggest they were paid off by the dental industry) but you can still buy it from the UK.
Garlic Paste: Garlic is a natural fighter against bacteria.
- Peel garlic and sprinkle a little salt
- Crush garlic
- Add the paste on to fill the cavities in teeth and keep it for 5-10 minutes.
Citrifolia Morinda Juice: Several studies have shown that this coffee plant extract is a natural disinfectant for dental tubules. It can repair cells and activate the immune system. It is even used by some dentists as an irrigant for root canals. [4]
Purchase liquid extract and add to water and swish (also known as Noni)
Or you can get Ultimate Gum Solution, which contains Citrifolia Morinda along with other potent natural ingredients.
Receding Gums or Bleeding Gums
Prevention is the best way to fight receding gums and periodontal disease.
Oil Pulling: Research shows that oil pulling removes toxins from the mouth, just as effective as germicidal mouthwash at eliminating bad breath, a common side effect of receding gums and gum disease.
- Swish 1 tbsp of oil (sesame, sunflower, or coconut) then spit it out into the trash can (oil will clog your plumbing)
- Rinse well with warm water and a drop of Ultimate Gum Solution (this potent nutritional mouthwash will activate gum cells that contribute to natural healing)
Aloe Vera: It reduces the inflammation of gums and activates the cells that are important for repair of tissues. Aloe Vera also has antibacterial properties that reduce infection.
- Boil water
- Add aloe vera gel
- Use as mouthwash
Swish with Ginseng Tea: Korean ginseng contains anti-inflammatory properties and can help to eliminate bad breath, which is a common symptom of gum disease.
- Purchase ginseng root or concentrate and make tea (without sugar) according to the direction.
- When drinking, swish it around your mouth.
Or you can get Ultimate Gum Solution, which contains Ginseng along with other potent natural ingredients.
Vitamin C: Studies show that foods such as oranges, kale, red peppers, broccoli and brussels sprouts may help to reduce the inflammation and bleeding associated with receding gums. [5]
Discolored Teeth
Baking Soda: Baking soda has natural whitening properties, (it's a common ingredient found in toothpaste). This mild abrasive can scrape away stains and create an alkaline environment that prevents bad bacteria from growing.
- Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 2 teaspoons of water and brush your teeth with the paste.
- You can do this twice per week (This is a little more aggressive than most toothpastes so do not do this more often or more than 2 minutes)
Eat crunchy fruits and vegetables: Nature's toothbrush, such as apples, celery, and carrots are all great for scrubbing away surface stains. Apples in particular contain malic acid that removes stains.
Coconut oil pulling: This particular oil pull is also a teeth whitener.
Bad Breath
The primary cause of bad breath is the buildup of bacteria on the back of the tongue or between teeth. These remedies may treat this particular cause, but bad breath can also be caused by other factors, such as smoking, dry mouth, or medical conditions. Consider seeing a doctor if the issue persists.
Salt water rinse: This prevents the build-up of infectious bacteria.
- Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt into warm water and swish for 1 minute
- Do this 3 times a day until the symptoms subside.
Tip: Add a drop of Ultimate Gum Solution to multiply the antiseptic affect.
Hydration: This helps to stimulate saliva production, which is a key to maintaining a good mouth bacteria ecology (beneficial bacteria).
Along with drinking more water, cut down on diuretics (coffee, black tea, alcohol), which contribute to fluid loss.
Cloves: Cloves freshen breath and act as a natural disinfectant.
- Chew a few pieces cloves for a few minutes
- Spit out
Drink Homemade Chai Tea: Cinnamon, cloves, cardamom are all antimicrobial agents (and delicious!)
- Boil 3 pieces of clove, 1 small cracked cinnamon stick, 1 tsp of ground pepper, a sliver of fresh ginger, and 2 cracked cardamom pods.
- Add 1 bag of black tea if you wish. Avoid sugar.
Tooth Abscess or Infection
A tooth abscess should be treated by a dentist, but some home remedies can relieve the discomfort caused by the infection.

Toothache
If you have a toothache, it’s important to figure out what’s at the root of your discomfort. Serious cases should require dentist inspection.
Warm Salt Water Rinse - As natural disinfectant, it can help loosen food particles and debris that may be stuck in between your teeth.
- Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt into warm water and swish for 1 minute
- Do this 3 times a day until the symptoms subside.
Tip: Add a drop of Ultimate Gum Solution to multiply the antiseptic effect.
Cold Compress: Allows blood vessels to constrict, reducing pain and inflammation.
- Hold a towel-wrapped bag of ice to the painful tooth for 20 minutes at a time.
-
You can repeat this every few hours.
Peppermint tea bag: These have a numbing property.
- Place a wet peppermint tea bag (optionally you can freeze for added numbing effect) on the painful area
- Keep it for at least 20 minutes
Mouth / Canker Sores
Avoid SLS Toothpaste (toothpaste containing chemicals that create the unnecessary foaming action): Check your toothpaste ingredients, as some of them may irritate your mouth and cause sores.
Sage: Sage kills bacteria and viruses, and contains compounds that reduce inflammation.
- Boil 2 tsps of dried sage "tea"
-
Swish it around the area with the sore
Chamomile Tea: Chamomile has been shown to contain chemical compounds that have antiseptic abilities. [6] Swish around sugar-free tea or place a wet tea bag directly on the sore.
Aloe: Can soothe pain and heal. Dab gel directly on the sore as often as necessary.
Sensitive Teeth
Oil Pulling: This ancient technique can pull the bacteria out of pre-cavities and promotes healthy teeth and gums, and help teeth become less sensitive
Guava Leaves: Guava leaves contain flavonoids like quercetin and rutin that exhibit anti-inflammatory properties.
Chew on 1 to 2 fresh guava leaves or boil 4-5 leaves in a cup of water and use as mouthwash when cooled.
Warm Salt Water Rinse: As a natural disinfectant, it can help loosen food particles and debris that may be stuck in between your teeth.
- Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt into warm water and swish for 1 minute
- Do this 3 times a day until the symptoms subside.
Tip: Add a drop of Ultimate Gum Solution to multiply the antiseptic effect.
